Sensation

We were thrilled to be asked to supply choreography and talent for Australia’s biggest dance party at Telstra Stadium on New Year’s Eve last year. This event was hosted by the world’s most formidable party organizers I,D & T. The CEO of this Amsterdam based company, Duncan Stutterheim, came to Jason in September and asked him to create and supply talent for the party. The dress code of the party was ‘all white’ and more than 35,000 people showed up to dance their way into the New Year. Jason was quoted saying “the view from the VIP bar over the sea of white clad people was extraordinary”. One of our resident Choreographers Yvette Lee worked together with Jason and our head of production Kristin to co-ordinate all of the entertainment for this spectacular event.

 

NYE Opera House

Jason is a part of the chore creative team that puts on the Sydney New Year’s Eve Fireworks spectacular as well as the Creative Director and Choreographer for;

  • The Lord Mayor’s Ball, at the forecourt of the Sydney Opera House
  • The VIP viewing Area at Dawes point, underneath the Sydney Harbor Bridge
  • The Lord Mayor’s VIP family picnic in the Royal Botanical Gardens.

As you can imagine, the scope of entertainment we supply for this night in itself is quite overwhelming. Dancers, singers, percussionists, acrobats, cheerleaders are just some of the extraordinary entertainment we conceived and supplied. A highlight of the evening included dance troupes from South America, Polynesia, Australia, USA India and even a few belly dancers from Turkey, in an extraordinary ‘Dance off’ at The Lord Mayors Party. All three shows hosted at the Harbor Venues ran simultaneously. Add to this, the supply of talent for Sensation dance party, the Crown Palladium Ballroom, VIP Party at Deck Ten Bar and the roving entertainment for the Crown Casino Complex, it certainly was a busy night for us all here at Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance.

 

NYE Crown

The Crown Entertainment complex is a hub of entertainment and we are proud to say, is one of what we consider to be our ‘Blue Ribbon Clients’. On New Year’s Eve we supplied shows for the High Rollers party in the Crown Palladium Ballroom. Working with David Campbell’s band, we supplied Australia’s best Lindy Hoppers and 12 of our own talented singer/dancers. Choreographed by Kelly Aykers, this was a star studded evening. Emcee for the evening, Toti Goldsmith was thrilled with her entrance created by Jason. With the Hit Broadway show ‘Hello Dolly’ as his inspiration, Jason rewrote the song ‘Dolly’ to ‘Toti’. She was serenaded into the room by our delightful male dancer/singers………. ‘Well hello Toti, Well hello Toti, It’s so nice to have you back where you belong…..’

We also supplied the Atrium and five of Crown’s best restaurant’s with entertainment for the evening. Jason developed roving shows using Melbourne’s best Latin dancers and created a 70’s style disco routine for these venues. These short shows rotated their way around the different restaurants and bars in the complex finishing with a spectacular show in the Atrium.

 

Deck Ten

Deck Ten is a bar that sits high above the business district of the Melbourne CDB. This unique VIP lounge hosted an A list party on its amazing pool deck. Celebrating the night away, yet again, the guests enjoyed entertainment supplied by Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance. Taking advantage of the 25 meter lap pool, Jason conceived a synchronized swimming show to the Madonna Track, ‘I’m Frozen’. Wearing textured lycra body suits, inspired by Cirque De Soliel, Kristin Agnoli choreographed an interesting and art based piece.

 

Riva Ed Hardy Parade

This event was one of Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance first outings and was the first event for the Ministry kids to show Melbourne how amazingly talented they are. Around 30 of our little groovers put on an Ed Hardy fashion parade choreographed by Jason supported by Live Vocals with our amazing young singers. Nicole Condos from Ed Hardy was quoted saying ‘I am blown away by how talented and professional the kids were.” Held at St Kilda’s celebrity hot spot Riva Bar, it was a fantastic opportunity for both Ed Hardy and Ministry; it’s massive success reported in the social page of Melbourne newspapers!

 

Fashion Aid

Fashion Aid is a Fashion based charity event held in the Crown Palladium Ballroom. We used this opportunity once again to align ourselves with the hottest ‘Rock star’ label in the world Ed Hardy. Jason again came up with a unique concept for this fusing together a rock show and fashion parade. Picture this………. A beautiful cat walk model struts her way down the cat walk with our very own vocalist Cherine Peck following behind her in a black rubber corset suit singing, ‘Free your Mind’.

Shaniera from the Fashion Aid organizing committee was quoted saying, “this was the only moment of the evening that the entire audience stopped, watched and then wildly applauded”. Just the way we like it!! We will be joining with Nicole and Shaniera and the Ed Hardy team for the event again this coming September. What will Jason come up with for this year?

 

Jessica Mauboy

Everybody loves Jessica Mauboy and we are very lucky to have Jessica utilizing our amazing studios for her rehearsals. We first came into contact with Jessica when Channel Nine contacted Jason to choreograph the opening number for the Logie Awards . Jason and long time friend Peter Harrington choreographed the opening number. Four of the Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance hottest male dancers joined Pete on stage with Jess. David Champion from David Caplice Management and Sony music, loved the work we put together for Jessica and consequently came back to us requesting our dancers again perform with Jessica at the ‘E.J. Whitten legends’ football match at Etihad Satdium. Once again televised nationally on Channel Nine this event gave us national exposure.

 

Fusion

We are very happy to be supplying dancers for ‘Fusion Night Club’ every weekend. A mixture of dancers from our agency are regulars for this show. We also occasionally supply some choreographed shows for the same venue. This is a fabulous opportunity for our hot girls and guys to get out there and strut their stuff in one of Melbourne’s hottest clubs.

 

Crown Tier One Promotions

For anyone who frequents the gaming floor of Melbourne’s Crown Entertainment complex, the cash promotion shows they have on the gaming stage will be very familiar. We are very proud to have secured two of the tenders put out to produce these short but high quality shows. Jason works very closely with Kristin and the rest of the team to conceive, choreograph and produce the shows. With more than twenty five different artists from our talent agency securing positions in these shows, we are certainly keeping our professional dancers busy. Our much loved Member Services team members, Laura and Troy have also been involved in choreographing, managing and performing in these shows.

 

Haystac

The Sydney based production house Haystac contacted us to get involved in a viral marketing campaign using the imagery and titled track from the 1980’s classic Michael Jackson album ‘Thriller’. We had 50 of our dancers perform a gorilla style routine at Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station in an ad campaign for Telstra Big Pond. Kristin and Ateesha pulled this gig together coordinating the casting, choreography and costumes and we once again featured in editorials in Melbourne newspapers for this well organized event.

 

DG Global

DG global is a Melbourne based international events company. DG’s CEO David Green and his newly appointed Creative Director Kile Ozier, came to Jason to conceive and produce entertainment for the Ronald McDonald house charity ball. This event will be held in the Crown Palladium Ballroom on July 17th 2009.

 

Opening Party

Last year’s “Party of the Year”, as quoted by the Herald Sun newspaper was our very own opening night party at Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance. We put on three and half hours worth of continuous entertainment to a crowd of 1200 people. We danced, sang and partied the night away with our members, friends and Melbourne’s A-list celebrity crowd. Fashion parades, Circus shows, Latin Dance shows, Tap dance groups, Lingerie parades and R and B performances from Melbourne’s best artists are the reason why we are happy to hold the title of ‘party of the year’. The highlight of the evening was the set from Dirty Laundry……Australia’s hottest dance music act. Moet Chandon and Belvedere Vodka cocktails were enjoyed by 400 guests in the VIP’s bar. It was an amazing event and we intend to top it this year with our first birthday celebration. So look out for tickets on sale soon.

 

Jay Z Perfume Launch

Jay Z Feat is one of LA’s hottest music producers and then of course he is very well known as the ex-boyfriend of Beyonce Knowles. That last title alone would make him one of the most revered men on the planet. When launching Jay Z’s new fragrance in Australia Elisabeth Arden turned to Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance. We supplied hip hop style shows for the launch party which by the way was held right here at the ministry. The hottest music producer, the hottest cologne launch, with the hottest talent, in the hottest studios…. Sounds like another great Ministry event to us!

 

Neighbours

Neighbours is one of the most syndicated TV shows on the planet with a viewing audience of 120 million people around the world. Jason was thrilled when approached by Fremantle media and requested he play himself in the show. And the opportunity, as opportunities often do, grew to involve everyone here in our Ministry family. Our much loved Kelly Aykers plays the role of Lauren, the firm but fair dance teacher. Our full time students feature heavily in the three episodes filmed in both in hallway scenes and dancers in the show case. Our amazing teachers and choreographers, Troy Phillips and Yvette Lee created choreography for the show.

Look closely folks and you will even see our Operations Manager Jackie Sherrin and our Full Time Course Administrator Eiligh Dragovic taking some much needed break time from behind their desks and slipping into a couple of scenes. It was a fantastic opportunity for our full time students to experience being on the set of a major television show. The whole experience was great for all of us and we were thrilled to be involved. Look out for our full timers in the Erinsborough High scenes following a few weeks later.

 

Nova

Nova radio station is one of the biggest in the country so it is no surprise that they too come to Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance for all of their Dance and Entertainment needs. Amongst others we supplied a great show for their 2008 Christmas Party incorporating our gorgeous Ministry dancers and the staff from the Radio station. The Radio station staff came to the Ministry and Kristin and Jason taught them a medley to Thriller and Vogue. Ryan from Nova, dragged up to perform with Jason’s dancers as one of the Pussy Cat Dolls. As you can imagine, the combination of Jason and Kristin’s professional dancers with employees from Nova certainly made it fun, slick and an entertaining show. It set the mood at the top of the night and set the party off. One of the Radio executives Steve Vanderveeken told us that it was the best Christmas party they have ever had.

 

Australian Dance Festival

Jason holds many titles and positions within the dance community and one of them is as Patron of the Australian Dance Festival. In June Jason and our General Manager Kenn Marsh, took three of our Full Time students Diana Ricks, Ashliegh Barret and Cassie O’brien to Sydney to represent the Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance at the Australian Dance Festival. Many of the country’s biggest dance institutions represented stalls in the expo area. We certainly stood out with our stall being Jason’s big black shiny HUMMER. With music playing and hazard lights flashing, Kenny and the girls manned the car. People certainly showed a lot of interest in our upcoming 2010 Summer School and Full Time Course. Jason hosted the performances during the evening and talked to the audience about the amazing things we have been doing at the Ministry in Melbourne. Jason and the girls held a workshop and donated all of the funds accumulated from the class to the Merry Makers to help them on their upcoming trip to Disneyland. Overall it was a great experience and Kenn, Jason and the girls had a great time!!!

 

Australian Dance Awards

The producers of the Australian Dance Awards approached Jason to produce an opening number for the Awards held at the State theatre on Sunday 7th June 2009. Jason tossed a few ideas around and then came up with the concept of a reunion. He would try and convince all of the Dancers from David Atkins Show Dancin’ Man to take to the stage one more time…….22 years later. So off he went to make the phone calls. Kelley Abbey, one of the country’s most celebrated choreographers, Jacqui Howard, the owner of Brent St Studios, Sheree Decosta Australian ballet and Sydney Dance Company Principle, Ana Kypreos from TDC Dance Centre and of course our own Dance Director Kelly Aykers made up the girls. Robert Sturrock, with his own Melbourne course, William Forsythe from ED5 Sydney and Ramon Doringo, Sydney Dance Company Class Director, joined Jason to make up the boys. They all agreed to dance one more time for this auspicious occasion. David Atkins was unable to join us as he is producing the Opening Ceremonies of the Minter Olympics in Canada.

This is an event Jason would usually be working on as well but has declined to put his time into his much loved ministry. David did however organise and filmed a very heartfelt message at the top of the number. This was presented to all along with some original footage of Dancin’ Man at the top of the piece. It was a highlight of the dance awards and certainly a highlight of Jason and Kelly’s year performing that Fosse routine with such loved dancers one more time all these years later. Jason described the performance as strangely surreal yet what struck him most was that it actually felt more normal than it did unusual. “ we all slipped straight back into dancer mode, It was if not a day had gone past. In the rehearsal room, the dressing room and even in the bar afterwards we fell straight back into the dance family we were all those years later. I loved being on the boards and under the lights again with this very special collection of amazing performers in a homage to my mentor and advisor Mr David Atkins”.

 

TV Networks

Jason Coleman’s Ministry of Dance is now supplying Channel 10 Melbourne and Channel 9 Melbourne with all of its Dance and entertainment needs. From corporate parties to TV appearances we have been asked to have dancers appear on The Logies, David and Kym in the Mornings, My generation, The today show, Neighbours, Good News Week and the Footy Show. Plus there are a few more very exciting projects we are currently talking about but can’t quite tell u yet. Stay tuned to this space for more details and more amazing gigs still to come…..
